European integration is leading to increased migration and labour mobility. The EUROCLASS project aims to study the transformations of the working classes in France from the perspective of intra-European mobility and its consequences for their working and employment conditions, lifestyles and social representations. Such an analysis is unprecedented and breaks down the barriers between studies on social stratification and social classes and those on migration. This collaborative research is structured around four analytical strands: understanding the effects of intra-European geographical mobility, on the one hand, on social mobility (1) and, on the other hand, on the employment and living conditions (2) of the working classes in France; the identification of specific forms of resource accumulation arising from these movements, which we term ‘international capital’ (3), and their effects on the lifestyles and socio-political perceptions of the working classes under study (4). To address these questions, the project combines quantitative and qualitative methods.
