Participating journal: Social Psychology of Education
Introduction: Stereotypes and prejudice wield significant influence in educational settings, shaping students’ experiences, academic performance, and social interactions. While they can be deeply ingrained, interventions within school environments have the potential to mitigate their effects and promote more equitable learning environments. This special issue aims to explore the impact of individual beliefs about the general changeability of different traits, innovative interventions for stereotype/prejudice reduction in schools themselves, as well as strategies for minimizing the impact of stereotypes on educational outcomes.
Topics of Interest: We invite submissions on a range of topics related to interventions for stereotype/prejudice reduction in schools, including but not limited to:
1. The impact of individual beliefs about the general changeability of different traits and their effects on the success of interventions.
2. Development and implementation of stereotype-reducing curriculum and teaching strategies.
3. Evaluation of the effectiveness of existing interventions aimed at reducing stereotypes among students and educators.
4. Exploration of the role of technology in combating stereotypes and promoting inclusivity in educational settings.
5. Examination of the intersectionality of stereotypes based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, ability, and other identity markers.
6. Analysis of the impact of school policies and practices on perpetuating or challenging stereotypes.
7. Investigation of the influence of family, peer groups, and community environments on stereotype formation and reduction efforts.
8. Identification of individual-level factors (e.g., mindset, self-efficacy) that contribute to stereotype susceptibility and resilience.
