In recent years, vocational education has undergone a number of reforms that have reinforced the hierarchy of qualifications within it. The reasons for choosing the vocational route have diversified, resulting in more heterogeneous student profiles, socially, academically and in terms of career ambitions. Research shows that professional integration varies not only according to these profiles, but also according to the level of qualification obtained, the specialization and the type of training (apprentice, school-based). On the other hand, few studies have focused on the working conditions and relationship to work of young vocational school leavers. From this point of view, those who achieve a “horizontal mismatch” by occupying a professional activity far removed from their training specialty deserve particular attention. In this project, we plan to use a mixed methodology. The use of national surveys (Génération, EVA) will enable us to analyze the determinants of working conditions and the relationship to work of vocational school leavers. A qualitative survey of graduates from two French regions will also be carried out to expand on these quantitative data, with a focus on young people affected by a “horizontal mismatch”.
